Is David Archuleta Gay? Chances are that he will never come out. Even though he tips my gaydar beyond the questionable mark, I guess I have to look at the actual, real, ya know…empirical evidence.

First off…he is only 17. I know that times have changed and it is MUCH easier to be out and young. However, statistics still support that most people do not come out until their college years or beyond. Despite the fact that he is an A student at his high school, David is not going to have college years. He will be singing and performing from now until he collapses from exhaustion in about twenty years.

That is not to say that he is not gay. It only means that he is starting down the path of superstardom as a cuddly cute teen and there is not a handler in the world who will let him come out and deny his marketability to Hannah Montana teeny boppers.

Second off…he is Mormon. There are, of course, gay Mormons, but they don’t come out.

So…what does this all mean? Well…comments on Rickey.org make a good point that David may simply be this year’s Clay Aiken (they have similar singing styles.) That means that he will do well far into the competition and that he will grow into Simon’s targeted punching bag (as Clay was.) Simon Cowell is a famous homophobe who often asserts that American Idol is a singing competition while making comments about a competitors image.

Is David Archuleta gay? I think he may be. Will he ever come out? Nope. Will ALL of us enjoy some great music in the meantime? Yep.

Now..before all of you people start telling me that I should mind my own business and leave David alone, please understand that ME wondering if someone is GAY is a compliment to that person. We need more out, gay, fabulous people. Should I just leave David alone and let him sing? Of course. Am I really bothering him? I doubt it.
