Two Men Kissing More Offensive Than Severed Heads
It may have flown under the radar for some, but earlier this month, a poll posted on WhatTheyPlay.com asked parents “Which Do You Find Most Offensive?” WhatTheyPlay.com is a parent resource site for video games. It features ratings and information, presumably to allow parents to get the “facts” about what Junior is really doing on Nintendo all day long.
The most offensive depiction in a video game, as deemed by the polled parents, is a man and a woman having sex, followed by two men kissing, followed closely by a depiction of a severed head. This makes naturally-occurring human behavior more offensive than gruesome murder. Hmmmm.
Comments ranged from outrage to quiet acceptance from the gay community. One blogger mused whether Brokeback Mountain would have won the Best Picture Oscar if Jack Twist had gone crazy in Texas and chopped off some homophobe heads. Most other bloggers just commented that it shows how far we have to go.
